Christopher Poore, of Bridgeton, was heading east on Route 40 when he struck Allen Miller Jr., 45, near milepost 20.5 in Pittsgrove around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, New Jersey State Police said. Poore then fled the scene.

Miller, who police said was from Vineland, was killed as a result of the crash. His obituary on the Adams Funeral Home website says he was a 1998 graduate of Schalick High School who went on to serve in the United States Navy during the War in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2005. He had been working as a delivery driver for Carl Harz Furniture in Elmer, his obituary says.

Detectives identified Poore as the driver and arrested him at his home on Oct. 2, police said. He was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death and Tampering with Evidence. He was released pending a future court date.
